Mr. MacFarlane is an expert in energy efficiency and sustainable development.

He is the author of Affordably Green in NYC, a green building guidebook for design professionals and policy makers, and is recognized as an expert in biomass applications for waste reduction and renewable energy production.

Alexander provided leadership during the design, construction, and commissioning process of the NYC Department of Housing, Preservation and Development’s first LEED gut-rehabilitation project, which achieved a LEED-Silver rating. His strategies have also been implemented by public and private developers such as the Rockefeller Group, Avalon Bay, and New York City's Department of Parks.

Alexander received his Master's in Environmental Management and Policy from the International Institute of Industrial Environmental Economics at Lund University in Sweden, and his undergraduate degree in Environmental Biology from Columbia University.
