HOW WE CONTRIBUTE EVERYDAY TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE WORLD!
While compliance with Local Law 84, Benchmarking, was due on May 1, 2011, New York City will accept the 2010 Benchmarking Compliance Report up to December 31, 2011 without the issuance of a penalty.
Altanova is pleased to serve as energy efficiency consultant to accomplish a comprehensive investment grade energy audit (ASHRAE Level 3) for a unique multifamily development in the North of Manhattan built in 1923-25 and which presents a quantity of technical and esthetic challenges.
Two-thirds of New-York City's rooftops are suitable for solar panels and could jointly generate enough energy to meet half the city's demand for electricity at peak periods! Please check more HERE.
Altanova is completing a feasibility study for a global corporation to evaluate the potential of what would be the first Concentrated Solar Power plant on the West Coast and one of the largest privately owned Solar installation in the US. What is Concentrated Solar Power?
Altanova serves as the energy efficiency consultant during the design phase and is the LEED consultant for the data center Phase 1 and next. With the support of Altanova’s engineers and consultants, the data center company developed to operate at a PUE (Power Utilization Efficiency) under 1.3, compared to a PUE of 2.0 for the average U.S. data center. As of the beginning of 2011, this is the lowest known PUE for a data center in operation in the New York metropolitan area. Combined with the other sustainability features of the project, this design is waiting to receive its LEED Gold Certification from the USGBC, and will be the first LEED Gold certified data center in New York metropolitan area. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA’s) Multifamily Performance Program is a comprehensive Program that addresses the needs of the multifamily sector by working with Program Participants to improve the energy efficiency, health, safety, and security of residential buildings with five (5) or more residential units. The Program consists of the New Construction Component and the Existing Buildings Component, serving all combinations of market-rate and low- to moderate-income projects through a common process and a varying schedule of incentives. The Program relies on a network of contractors, called Multifamily Performance Partners, who have demonstrated their ability to provide building performance services to program participants. POWERleap, Inc. is a clean-tech company developing floor solutions that generate electricity from pedestrian and vehicular traffic. When faced with dwindling natural resources and growing urban sprawl, POWERleap highlights the way forward to a more sustainable energy future.
Based on Altanova's Life Cycle Analysis on Solar Gard architectural solar control window films, Bekaert Specialty Films (BSF) just published the largest Environmental Product Declaration ever completed. Because BSF sell their films all over the world, Altanova has taken into consideration the specificities of each region (climate, insulation, energy grid, transportation, etc.) to produce the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). International standards for LCA and reporting (ISO 14040 and 14025) were utilized to perform the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Reviewed by Altanova, Solar Gard’s EPD corresponds to the highest level of transparency and disclosure about the environmental impact of a product or service. Moreover, BSF discovered that their Solar Gard window films are not just carbon neutral, but have an overall net positive impact on the environment! The products are “carbon negative, earth positive” as Bekaert Specialty Film likes to say. Please read Greenbiz article “The Solar Gard’s Environmental Product Declaration” and find out more at Solar Gard’s Press Release. Contact Altanova to learn how we can improve your business. Visit our LCA page to learn about how Altanova can help you determine your product’s environmental footprint and ways to reduce it. Altanova is pleased to announce the addition of Heather Langsner to our team of experienced consultants. Heather will contribute her deep expertise in research on sustainability risks and opportunities to client engagements. Heather spent over seven years as an analyst and then director of research at Innovest Strategic Value advisors (acquired in 2009 by RiskMetrics, now part of MSCI), where she was responsible for providing industry-leading environmental, social and governance (ESG) research to buy-side investors. Her intimate knowledge of leading companies in sectors such as manufacturing, chemicals, and finance, and her experience in identifying hidden creators as well as destroyers of value, will strenthen Altanova's analytics-based approach to sustainability. Welcome, Heather!
IT infrastructure is a major source of inefficiency in corporate energy use and GHG emission. The EPA has determine that energy efficiency improvements of up to 50% are possible in most cases, with attractive payback and without compromising performance. Contact us now to know how Altanova can help you reduce you data center operating costs.
Following the announcement of our participation in projects in Rwanda and Tanzania, Altanova is very happy to announce its forming partnerships with Airline Ambassadors to engage in projects in Haiti. A Climate Declaration is a single-issue ISO-defined Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) focused on Climate Change potential. Based on Altanova's Life Cycle analysis (LCA) on architectural solar control film products, Bekaert Specialty Films is the first U.S. firm to obtain this type of third-party reviewed declaration which corresponds to the highest level of transparency and disclosure about the environmental impact of a product or service. Please check Bekaert Specialty Films Press Release and find out more at Climatedec. Because BSF sell their films all over the planet, our work has taken in account the specificities of each regions of the globe (climate, insolation, energy grid, transportation, etc.). See the article in the French economic newspaper La Tribune (French, and English translation) about the impact of the product and the analysis. With the help of Altanova, BSF is one of the very first company worlwide to prove that their business has an overall net positive impact on climate change! Contact us to know what Altanova can do for your business or visit our LCA page to know more about how we can help you reduce or find the environmental footprint of your products.

Pay-for-Performance is a comprehensive energy efficiency program that provides incentives towards whole-building energy improvements. Please click here to visit New Jersey's Clean Energy Program page. Starting in 2010, approximately 10,000 facilities in the United States will be required to report their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions under the final EPA rule. Under the rule, suppliers of fossil fuels and industrial greenhouse gases, manufacturers of vehicles and engines, and facilities with annual GHG emissions of 25,000 metric tonnes or more will be required to submit annual reports. The first reporting period starts January 1, 2010, and the first submission to EPA is due by March 31, 2010. Does this rule apply to your facility? This Applicability Tool will help you answer the question. Our carbon management team would be pleased to review your GHG reporting obligations further and help you manage the business risks and opportunities associated with climate change. For more information, contact Michael Gresty 347-821-9056 OR ghgreporting@altanova-energy.com. According to a new report by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), industrial sector energy savings remain untouched by many existing publicly-funded energy efficiency programs. Energy efficiency in the industrial sector represents a low-cost opportunity compared with other sectors, but operating successful programs requires different approaches than are traditionally applied in other sectors, according to the study. Consuming nearly 32 percent of the nation’s energy in 2007, the US industrial sector offers significant opportunities for energy savings and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
Altanova has been retained to develop schematic and compliance energy models for over 1,300,000 square feet of new office buildings in Qatar. Our team employed an innovative methodology to simulate the complex external skin that shades the glass facade from high levels of solar heat gain typical of the region. The simulations have determined that various energy conservation measures can be effective in this climate, but energy recovery ventilation (ERV) is not one of them, due to the high internal heat loads.
